![]() This was the stupidest thing Oracle could do with Java. Oracle specifically BROKE the Java sandbox, allowing Java to interact directly with computer systems. ![]() Why is Java over the Internet now so dangerous? Thank Oracle, who obtained Java when they bought Sun Microsystems. Check up on their reputation and verify they are NOT Trojans. So avoid running mysterious Java apps you know nothing about. Trojan horse Java applications are possible. Just be sure you run Java apps, off the Internet, from reliable developers. NOTE: Running Java applications off the Internet is not typically a problem. But for the sake of simplicity and the ability to reinstate the Java Plug-In whenever you may want to actually use it on the Internet, I'd leave everything else in place. It seems that the installation worked fine. Then I manually installed the JDK (1.7) on my Mac. When I upgraded it to Mac OS X v10.9 (Mavericks) and ran java -version in the terminal, it showed: No Java runtime present, requesting install. Once you have installed the JRE, you can launch Java applets and applications by double-clicking JAR files, JNLP files, and via the browser. I have installed the JDK on Mac OS X v10.8 (Mountain Lion). The JRE is also referred to as Oracle Java. ![]() There are other Java bits and pieces you could trash. You should see a pop up asking to install Java again.A quick and simple way to DISABLE running JAVA over the Internet (if you have Admin privileges):Ģ) Remove from this directory everything listed as 'Java'. Can I install Java on Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) Yes. Apple has no plans to make those API available on older versions of the Mac OS. Some of the API were added in Mac OS X 10.7.3. You can test that java is gone by running: java -version The Java Runtime depends on the availability of an Application programming interface (API). You may wish to check your work using diff: diff -u ~/Desktop/ist /Library/Receipts/ist | less Sudo emacs /Library/Receipts/istĪnd delete them. If you prefer a different text editor feel free to use it but do not use a word processor that puts formatting codes in the text file. ![]() Sudo rm -rf /private/var/db/receipts/.plistĪt this point you need to edit the installation history to delete evidence you installed Java.
